At Monarch Shores, the cumulative experience and education of our staff amounts to over 100 years of expertise in the fields of substance abuse and addiction, as well as the field of mental health treatment. We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to use our professional skills and personal experiences to help clients achieve long-term recovery. Danielle Guerrero –  Therapist

Danielle completed her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of La Verne. Danielle is currently a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. Before beginning at Monarch Shores she was working with children and young adults who have delayed learning disabilities, she is highly specialized in Applied Behavior Analysis. Danielle has four years experience volunteering with American Foundation of Suicide Prevention where she educates individuals on the effects of mental illness. Danielle completed her traineeship working extensively with children who are at risk in Orange County. She is also a part of the Orange County Crisis Response Team where she helps individuals who present to be in crisis. Danielle focuses on creating a safe and motivating environment that is helpful in healing each client. She utilizes theories including REBT, Family-Systems, and Psychodynamic approaches. However, Danielle utilizes her knowledge to find a theory that is best tailored to each client’s needs in hopes that they will have a lasting recovery.

Richelle Segura – Case Manager

Richelle is a graduate of Cal State University of Fullerton with a Bachelors in Psychology as well as certified in drug and alcohol counseling(CADC) and is currently working on her Masters in Addiction/Spiritual Counseling. Richelle brings her personal experience in 12 step recovery, more than 10 years of counseling work with women as well as an extensive experience working with eclectic, multicultural and social economic populations in the field of recovery. Richelle’s experience allows her to bring her own unique brand of passion, enthusiasm and warmth to clients and their families. Her ability to integrate her interests guides her process. “I find that the skills I use as a counselor are the same skills I use as a creative artist in dance …to develop themes in an organic, vulnerable and authentic way I rely on spontaneity, creativity, awareness, etc.” She believes that it is the combination of these tools that has brought joy and meaning to her own life, and it is her passion and mission to share these insights with others.

Alma Mandujano- Case Manager

Alma Mandujano is a qualified Christian Drug, Alcohol, and Addictions Counselor (CDAAC). Alma has more than 15 years of experience in mentorship, counseling, and is currently in the journey of becoming a drug and alcohol counselor. She has extensive experience in case management, one on one counseling, and facilitating group therapy sessions. Alma is dedicated and extremely passionate for those in need. She takes the time to understand each person and their needs for the best road to recovery.

Lisa McKinney – Therapist

Lisa is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist committed to helping her clients understand their core emotional issues, identify their strengths, and move forward in their recovery through growth and insight. Lisa completed her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Chapman University in Orange, CA and her Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Concordia University in Irvine, CA. She works with clients through a Person-Centered approach, empowering and motivating her clients to move forward, while also utilizing Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral therapies. Lisa takes pride and passion in individualizing each client’s treatment to best match their needs in order to help identify a realistic, happy, and fulfilling recovery.

Kimberly Truong – Therapist

Kimberly has over 5 years of experience in clinical therapy with a focus on families, adults and adolescents in recovery. She’s always held an interest in psychology and started her formal education at Hawaii Pacific University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She continued her education at Pepperdine University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Kimberly is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and certified in Seeking Safety. Kimberly’s therapeutic approach centers on the organic activation and recognition of a client’s internal value and hope, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy and motivational interviewing. She embraces the Rogerian therapeutic perspective of unconditional positive regard for the client. Kimberly is an avid runner and reader, and believes in the power of wholeness and wellness within the mind, body and spirit.

Claire Yeager – Therapist

Claire has over 10 years’ experience doing individual and group psychotherapy, specializing in self-esteem issues and drug and alcohol recovery. She earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Phillips Graduate Institute in Chatsworth, California and her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UCLA. She is currently registered as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.  Claire studied Rogerian Therapy, which creates a positive environment that is very helpful in healing each client’s unique self-esteem issues. This supportive counseling structure helps clients feel safe to experience and “work through” uncomfortable emotions that were likely avoided in the past by using drugs or alcohol. Claire enjoys helping clients build confidence in their recovery, learn appropriate self-care, and learn new emotional and behavioral coping skills.  She has also studied Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing Therapy, which are useful in helping clients discover and reflect on their motivations for a successful, lasting recovery.

Abbe McClenahan – Therapist

Abbe McClenahan received her Master’s Degree from the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Counseling Psychology and her Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Studies. She has more than five years of experience in counseling and therapy. Abbe is currently a registered associate as a Marriage and Family Therapist with three years worth of experience specializing in individual and group therapy sessions. She is passionate about helping clients identify the root of their traumas in a comfortable way. From there, Abbe works with the client to set positive life-structures and safe coping skills to encourage a permanent recovery. She wants what is best for the clients and to ensure that they have a greater future with a lifestyle that reflects self love and healthy coping mechanisms.

Justina Flanagan – Case Manager

 Justina has over 6 years’ experience work in Addiction and Behavioral Health Services.  She is currently RADT-1 and is earning her certificate in Human Services to become a certified AOD Counselor.  She has valuable experience in Team Leadership, and is experienced in all areas of Crisis Intervention, Patient Assessment, Clinical Operations, and Group Facilitation.  She prides herself on providing positive support to those in need and finds pure joy in helping others.  Justina pours her heart into every aspect of her career and believes in continued education so that she may be well-equipped and prepared to further assist patients and her fellow staff for years to come.

Charles Stafford – Therapist

Charles has over 5 years’ of experience in the mental health profession and has earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from California State University Long Beach.  Currently Charles is an Associate Clinical Social Worker with three years’ experience specializing in group psychotherapy focusing on acute trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.  Charles studied and later specialized in trauma focused/substance therapy and interventions.  These help create a positive environment that promotes the development of safe coping skills, positive, life-enhancing behaviors, and restructuring old thought patterns into positive, self-beneficial thinking. This safe and non-threatening therapeutic style helps clients comfortably disclose past trauma and “work through” painful emotions they avoided that induced and reinforced their substance use patterns.  Charles continuously expands his client treatment expertise and is well versed in cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational-interviewing, problem solving therapy, symptoms targeted interventions, and is certified in Seeking Safety.  The end goal is to redirect the behaviors of substance abusers with appropriate interventions that recognize and respond to the unique situation of each client.  The ultimate satisfaction Charles derives from his work is providing clients with the tools to create new, productive life patterns while discovering a future with greater potential and rewarding possibilities.

Darryl Gober – Case Manager

Darryl Gober obtained his degree in Alcohol and Drug studies as well as CADC at Saddle Back College. He has experience as House Manager and has been a Case Manager since 2017. Darryl believes in developing person centered treatment plans and prides himself in conducting himself ethically with an ability to communicate effectively with his clients, working to build understanding and empathetic rapport to develop the best support possible.

Derrick-Bruce Harvey – Case Manager

Derrick Harvey is certified Drug and Alcohol counselor CADC II and has worked in the addiction field for 20 plus years. Derrick extensive experience in the field of addiction allow him to be empathetic and a leader when it comes to practicing sobriety. He has worked facilitating groups ranging from dealing with relationship dynamics between women and men, to 12 step recovery and SMART recovery. All who know Derrick find him to be extraordinarily passionate about his work and to have a wonderful sense of humor.

Alejandro Alva, M.D. – Medical Director & Detox Specialist*

Dr. Alva received his education at the California State University, Fullerton and the Autonomous University of Guadalajara Medical School. After he completed his education and training in Guadalajara, Mexico, he returned to California to finish his residency at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Alva is the CEO and chief medical officer of Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists, a specialized medical group that focuses not only on psychiatric disorders but also on dual diagnosis conditions including alcohol and chemical dependency.
Prior to Dr. Alva’s formation of Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists (PNS), he was involved in multiple endeavors, including inpatient and outpatient detoxification and rehabilitation work with the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, Chapman Medical Center in Orange, as well as multiple out patient rehabilitation centers in Southern California. Since the formation of PNS, Dr. Alva’s focus is on the latest treatments available for psychiatric disorders and chemical dependence as well as aspects of ethnicity and gender and their correlation to pathological states. Dr. Alva has over 20 years experience in serving the medical community in various capacities, including roles as a patient advocate, clinician, researcher, and medical director.
 Dr. Alva’s expertise in adolescent, adult, and geriatric psychiatry and dual diagnosis utilizes the latest pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches to treat depression (such as rTMS, which involves magnetic stimulation of the brain) as well as the use of anticraving treatments make him one of the nation’s most innovative and prominent psychiatrists.Dr. Alva is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Orange County Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the California Psychiatric Association, the American Board of Forensic Medicine, the American College of Forensic Examiners, the American Board of Psychopharmacology, and the California Hispanic American Association of Hispanic Professionals.
Lastly, Dr. Alva understands the stigma associated with chemical dependence disorders and the societal bias against these medical conditions. Dr. Alva and his staff have a mandate to work together with rehabilitation and recovery centers to optimize treatment and provide the best medical care available.

Yvette Elpido – Nurse Practitioner 

Yvette Elpidio received her Master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis on family practice from the California State University at Long Beach. She is Board Certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Yvette has been working as an Nurse Practitioner in the psychiatric field for many years with Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists after completing her MSN degree. She also provides treatment and care for patients with substance abuse and addiction.

Prior to this she worked as a registered nurse for five years before going back to school. She has worked in a varied number of specialized settings which include: telemetry, oncology, medical-surgical, home health and hospice. Yvette has also been instrumental in clinical research having worked for three years as an infusion nurse for ATP Clinical Research. Valuing education, she works as a preceptor for Touro University. Yvette worked with nursing students as a clinical instructor for the Cerritos College nursing program. Yvette’s focus is on clinical care looking to provide patients a wealth of expertise, knowledge and a personal warmth in a very real humanistic and holistic approach.

Sheena Patel – Nurse Practitioner

Sheena Patel, PA-C completed her undergraduate studies at University of California Irvine, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences. She concurrently performed 4 years of academic research at a UCI laboratory related to Addiction, Drug Abuse, and Associated Effects on the Brain. Sheena Patel subsequently attained a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences from New York University. She then completed her Physician Assistant training at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus.

She has been a nationally board-certified PA-C since 2010. Her clinical experience is vast and includes work in Internal Medicine, Subspecialty Surgery (Urology, Vascular, ENT, and Plastic Surgery), Pain Management, and Psychiatry. She has particular interest in Psychosocial Medicine and Addiction Disorders. She is knowledgeable, thorough, compassionate and cares deeply about the well-being of her patients. Sheena Patel PA-C is a National Certified Speaker for pharmaceutical medications.


Jennifer Knowles – LVN, Charge Nurse

Jenny has been a nurse for over twenty years, providing quality care for individuals of all ages and demographics. She has worked in the areas of Surgery, Emergency Room, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Utilization Review, Eating Disorder, and Behavioral Health/Substance Abuse. The last seven years Jenny has dedicated her focus to Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse. She has a passion to help individuals struggling with mental health issues, past trauma, self-inflicting behaviors, and substance abuse issues. Jenny finds it very rewarding to see the transformation that takes place in individuals suffering from substance abuse and addiction during their rehabilitation treatment.
There is a tremendous amount of growth and change that takes place starting from the clients’ initial detox phase, where the individual feels they can no longer go on or even survive, to the end of their treatment program where the individual leaves with the tools and fundamentals to achieve their sobriety and to maintain a healthy lifestyle that suits their individual needs. Jenny is an advocate of making positive lifestyle choices to maintain a holistic approach to wellness. She enjoys nutrition, massage, meditation, running, mountain biking, hiking, body building, Pilates, kayaking, and paddle boarding. Her other interests include spending time with her family and her two amazing sons, reading, dance, sports, movies and travel.

Shelby Hickey – LVN

Shelby is a Licensed Vocational Nurse who embodies compassion and strives to provide the best possible care for clients. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies at San Francisco State University where she soon discovered her passion for nursing after volunteering at a local hospital. After returning to Orange County, she decided to pursue a career in nursing at Stanbridge College. Shelby has experience in various areas of nursing including geriatrics, school nursing, mental health, and addiction. Throughout the recovery process, she ensures that clients are in optimal health and is very supportive in assisting with any medical concerns. She is committed to promoting wellness education, and advocating healthcare needs. Shelby is very grateful to be involved in a client’s journey to sobriety as they continue to take steps into a healthy lifestyle

Usiel Gutierrez – LVN 

Usiel has worked in the medical field for 6 years in the areas of Home Health, Geriatrics, Tetraplegia, Hemodialysis and Behavioral Health/Substance Abuse. For the past two years, he has devoted his time and efforts to Behavioral Health/Substance Abuse. Usiel loves to help others and this field allows him do so on a daily basis. He believes the best feeling is knowing you can make a difference in someone else’s life for the better. Seeing clients transition to sobriety and regain control of their lives is one of the key factors in choosing to enter this field. In his free time, Usiel loves to write short stories, bake and spend time with his family.

Kim Prosser – LVN

Kim is a highly motivated and passionate professional. She has been nursing for nearly 10 years. She has a family history of substance abuse and mental health issues, so she enjoys working with our clients to overcome their personal obstacles. She has compassion for our clients because she can identify with them having had the personal experience with her own parents and their sobriety. She is dedicated to educating our clients on our protocol and palliative care for withdrawal symptoms that are available to keep them as comfortable as possible while going through the detox process and beyond. She believes in the holistic approach our company takes in the healing process and enjoys being an integral part of the team. Kim has been married for 12 years and is a mother of 3.

Laura Svette – Art4Healing Group Facilitator  

Laura works with art expression, using it as a therapeutic processing medium. Her work has taken her to aiding in connecting emotion to expression with the wounded warriors program for veterans, struggling teens at Orange County Department of Education, as well as those struggling with psychotic disorders. She was honored at the 2017 Palette of Colors Gala with the Facilitator of the year award. Laura continues her work by providing an alternative means for expression for clients during their process of sobriety.

Edmund Erickson – Acupuncturist

 Edmund is a California Licensed Acupuncturist/Herbalist and has over 16 years of clinical experience. He uses the following treatment methods in clinic: traditional Chinese acupuncture, traditional Japanese meridian therapy, and the balance method.
He treats such things as: detoxification, addiction, pain of any kind (physical or emotional), weak digestion, stress, anxiety, sleep problems, fatigue, and mind-body disconnection.
Edmund is Nationally Certified as a Diplomat in Acupuncture by the NCCAOM. He holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Science Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California.

Jared Raymond – VP of Project Management 

Jared has a variety of experience in the field of behavioral health and addiction services. In the recovery field he has held the roles of trainer, supervisor, and administrator. His competencies include clinical best practice implementation, treatment innovation, recovery programming, and organizational leadership. He has focused his career on achieving results, utilizing teambuilding, and motivating others to reach common corporate goals. Jared is deeply involved in improving the quality of the team and their results through coaching, troubleshooting, project planning, and problem-solving. Jared is passionate about the recovery process and is constantly improving the practices of this organization.

Chad Daugherty -CEO


Chad is a certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC II) with over a decade of experience working in the field of recovery. Chad’s optimistic approach is individualized and creative to help each client reestablish exactly who they truly are, work towards finding peace, and perfect self expression. Chad believes in instilling the confidence needed to face the many challenges ahead with emphasis on meditation, spirituality, and learning to give back to the community.

Jennifer DeVore – Clinical Director

Jennifer entered the behavioral health field in 2004 that includes spectrum disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance abuse. Her roles have included implementing direct intervention with clients, case supervision, individualized programming, parent training, and program development.

Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, East Bay. Her passion for working with families, individuals, and couples led her to her master’s degree in clinical psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University.

Jennifer truly enjoys working with her clients to facilitatea safe and open environment forchange and growth.

Manuel Perez – Director of Operations

Manuel Perez has an extensive background helping clients in the medical field and healthcare industry. He gained his associates certification in clinical research in 2005 and was certified as a medical assistant and an E.M.T.
He did his internship at Costal Community hospital of Tustin and has also done numerous clinical research studies for big pharmaceutical companies helping patients find the proper medication to help deal with Mental illness, Autism, PTSD, Bipolar, Depression.
He has been working in treatment Since 2012 and Has helped over 3000 clients fight their addiction and begin their journey in sobriety. He takes pride and finds passion and purpose making a difference in people’s life’s.
